Looking for a fun activity to do with your Brownies or Scouts group? Do you often organize playgroups on your community? Are you a teacher looking for a new arts and crafts project to teach your class? Scoubidou is just what you need!
Scoubidou or skoobies is a crafting project that involves a lot ot plaiting and knotting. Much like rope knots being taught when children join Brownies or Scouts, except Scoubidou uses a type of plastic cord. These cords are sold in various colours and sizes.
There are a lot of different things you can do with these plastic cords. Its elasticity allows it to be collapsed and deformed when pulled and can easily transform into stable knots.
Kids can do all type of things with Scoubidou including key chains, bracelets and zipper pulls. They will also learn about basic stitches such as Circle Stitch, Twist Stitch and Cobra Stitch. As well as advanced ones such as The Fluted Columns Completion Stitch and Fancy Finished Tassels.
Learning through arts and crafts is a great way to teach kids about creativity and communication. As a universal form of expression, crafting teaches kids to better communicate with their peers and teachers. It also builds confidence and a sense of accomplishment and pride.
Scoubidou is not only a fun activity for both children and adults alike. It is also very entertaining and educational. A lot of Youth Clubs in the country already uses Scoubidou as a part of their regular activities.

Tying colored strings is decorative and great fun. You can make key rings, figures, jewellery etc.
These hollow strings can be threaded with wire to make them bendable. The string can then be wound round a pencil a few time to make a colorful spiral.
Here we show four different techniques which can also be used for tying figures or other decorations.
If plaiting a keyring you can tie a carbine hook or keyring into the first knot.
